Faith Lutheran helps out with several local distribution "banks" for local families:

Holy Cross Lutheran Non-Food Bank (6 Mile, west of Middlebelt)

Good Hope Lutheran Food Bank (Cherry Hill, west of Inkster)

Collection for these wonderful projects is an ongoing process here at Faith. Non-perishable food and items such as toilet paper, cleaners, diapers, shampoos, etc. are collected in our Narthex and taken to the appropriate Bank.  Drop off items during the week or on Sunday mornings. This is a great time of need and every contribution is greatly appreciated!

We also have a 'spare change' tin used to collect all those annoying coins rattling around in your packets. This donation tub is located in the Narthex. The monies collected are then donated to Holy Cross and Good Hope for them to use as they see fit.

WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)

The women of Faith actively work on various projects, living out our Faith to help others inside and outside of our congregation.

Outside, we support the work of First Step, a shelter for abused women, children & men serving Wayne County. We donate varies items, including handmade quilts to the organization. In addition, our WELCA group has spearheaded many drives to provide items, such as health and education supplies, to be distributed throughout the nation and the world.

The women of Faith are active in the work of the WELCA group of Southeast Michigan, attending conferences and conventions, as well as participating in its annual banquet to honor women at work in the church. Each fall, we collect school supplies as part of that larger effort. Faith has hosted events for the Southeast Michigan WELCA.

Our WELCA group sponsors several annual events. In May they Celebrate Spring with an evening program featuring various topics and desserts.  Each December, Advent by Candlelight offers an opportunity to spend some quiet time remembering the true meaning of Christmas, featuring music and devotions.

All women are welcome to join us in sharing their gifts for others. Please contact Julia Machnak or Virginia Smith for more information.

Library

Anyone interested in working with books should join us! Our responsibilities involve ordering and processing books for our adult Library and the Children's Book Nook, which is found in the Narthex. We also maintain the book shelves and card catalog, rotate books from the Library to the rack in the Narthex, write newsletter articles to advertise our books, process children's books for Building Blocks, and manage the Faith Bookstore. The Library group meets as needed September - May. Contact the church office if you are interested in joining this group.

Books & More Bookstore

The Faith Bookstore is located in the Memorial Garden Hallway and is staffed for 20 minutes before and 15 minutes after the 10:00am service on Sunday mornings, September through May. Usually someone is available earlier in the morning to help those who wish to purchase items.

The Bookstore can always use more sellers. You are scheduled to serve once every other month. Requirements to man the Bookstore ~ you must be friendly (it's a great opportunity to get to know Faith folks), handle money transactions, and keep track of items sold so that they can be reorderd.

Items from the Bookstore can be purchased during the week any time the building is open. Payment can be given to the church secretary or put in an envelope and slid through the church office mail slot.

"Books & More" has recently grown in space. We have a selection of merchandise for all occasions, including jewelry, greeting cards, baby gifts, & books for all ages. Look for special holiday items.

We stock Fair Trade Coffee, both regular & decaf (ground & beans) along with Equal Exchange tea in a variety of flavors. We have also added Fair Trade Olive Oil.

The ladies of our Bookstore also wish you to know that they can order books for you. Call to talk to a member on Tuesday mornings or stop by their counter on Sunday to get the details!

Quilters ~ "The Piece Makers"

The Piece Makers have been involved in making quilts for various groups since its inception in 2000. We have made quilts for First Step, a shelter of abused women, children, & men and for Lutheran World Relief. Every year we also makes quilts to present to our congregation's high school graduates which are given to them during a service in June. The graduates can take the quilts with them off to college and carry with them a piece of their Faith family.

Anyone interested in being of service is welcome to join. Minimal sewing skills are required. We meet every Wednesday from 9:30am-2:00am in the Choir Room. Bring a lunch if can stay through the noon hour. We meet September through May. Contact the church office with any questions.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer is vital to the life of every Christian and church. Our Prayer Ministry tries to share this with others. Like every congregation, Faith includes many in its Sunday prayers - members, members' families and also friends. We send notes to everyone included in our prayers so that they know that we are thinking of them and offering up prayers on their behalf. Anyone can be involved in this caring service to others. In addition to adding those in need to our own individual prayers, you can help by taking a turn to write notes to those added to our list of prayer concerns. Please contact Julia Machnak or the church office if you would like further information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry has been going strong for over 8 years. Whether they are knitted or crocheted, in the traditional triangle shape or in the form of a lap robe, for little ones or the elderly, whatever color of the rainbow is chosen, we have many members and friends of Faith joining in this special ministry. The shawls are given to not only those in need physically due to illness, but those who may have other issues that they are working on. We also provide shawls for caregivers who also need some TLC as they help others. We have shawl patterns available for both the knitter and the crocheter, but feel free to use one of your own. Contact Beth in the church office for further details.

Parish Life

Our Parish Life commitee consists of a group of individuals who take on the responsibility of organizing many events at Faith, especially 'food-related' events! They have sponsored our Lent and Advent Tuesday meals, a chili cook-off, summer barbeques, movie nights, retirement parties, banquets, and special Coffee Hours for graduates and confirmands. They also make sure that Faith's pantry is freshly stocked with paper supplies for our many gatherings. If you would like more information about how to participate with this fun group of members, please contact the church office.
